Swine flu virus death toll is now getting uncontrollable. Many have misconceptions that swine flu virus will mostly affect colder areas. However no one cannot be 100% sure about this. Better is get aware about swine flu from as many as sources as possible and take precautions against swine flu virus.

Swine flu virus is very new and its treatment and vaccine will certainly take time to get the best source. However there are available recommendations that are at present used in many countries.

Swine flu also called H1N1 is an influenza virus causing illness among people. This was first detected in Mexico in April 2009. And after that day this virus is spreading worldwide from people to people.

This H1N1 is referred to as swine flu because it is proved in labs that may genes in this virus is similar to the influenza virus that normally occurs in pigs (also called swine) in North America.

Pregnant women and youth are the majorly affected from swine flu virus. The World Health Organization says HIN1 has infected more than 162,000 people and killed 1,154.

Swine flu has already affected many countries worldwide. In India death toll has reached to 26 (August 17). This has been detected in almost 19 African countries. Argentina has recorded most swine flu deaths after US, and have stopped publishing death tolls. In Argentina in space of two weeks death have almost doubled. A total of 6,506 hospitalizations and 436 deaths associated with novel influenza A (H1N1) have been reported to CDC. Four states and Puerto Rico reported geographically widespread influenza activity, 11 states reported regional influenza activity, 12 states and the District of Columbia reported local influenza activity, 23 states reported sporadic influenza activity.

Symptoms of this in people include fever, sore throat, cough, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, & fatigue. Some have also reported diarrhea and vomiting. Severe illness and death has also occurred due to H1N1. Pregnant women are more vulnerable but more study is required to determine if younger or older people or people with other medical conditions are more prone to infections. The World Health Organization, however, recommends that everyone take precautions to prevent the spread of infection.

Every one in world need to contribute to stop proliferation of swine flu. This will not only limit the death toll due to swine flu but also prevent from people getting affected by this swine flu virus.

This can be done by considering following precautions:


  • Use tissue: Always cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands regularly: Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. You can even use specific hand cleaners.
  • Don't touch contaminated surfaces: Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
  • Stay bit far from sick people: Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
  • Avoid going to public place unnecessarily: If sick with flu-illness stay at home, at least for 24 hours even after fever is gone. Stay away from others as much as possible to keep from making others sick. Follow public health advice regarding school closures, avoiding crowds and other social distancing measures.
  • Try to be fit & Healthy: Get adequate sleep, eat nutritious food and keep physically active.
  • Be prepared: In case you get sick and need to stay home for a week or so be prepared for a supply of over-the-counter medicines, specific hand cleaners, tissues and other related items might could be useful and help avoid the need to make trips out in public while you are sick and contagious.
